We can make a difference one pencil, one child.

According to UNESCO*, something as simple as going to school is an experience that, millions of kids around the world, likely will never have.

Though many countries provide free elementary education, attending school still comes at a cost. Parents and caretakers often pay for mandatory uniforms and other fees. School supplies are also necessary. According to a World Bank report, these costs can keep many students out of the classroom.

What obstacles exist to providing education for every child globally?

  • A lack of funding for education.
  • Having no teacher, or having an untrained teacher.
  • No classroom.
  • A lack of learning materials.
  • The exclusion of children with disabilities.
  • Being the ‘wrong’ gender.
  • Living in a country in conflict or at risk of conflict.
  • Distance from home to school.

According the United Nations, Every child has the right to health, education and protection, and every society has a stake in expanding children’s opportunities in life. Yet, around the world, millions of children are denied a fair chance for no reason other than the country, gender or circumstances into which they are born.

“It takes a village to raise a child” is an African proverb that means that an entire community of people must interact with children for those children to experience and grow in a safe and healthy environment. There are so many ways to help:

  • Donate money.
  • Donate specific school supplies items or a full kit: Pencils, Coloring Pencils, Crayons, Erasers, Sharpeners, Scissors, Glue Sticks, Pencil Case.
  • Create a school supply drive in your place of work, church, or simply with your friends.
  • For our sewing friends you can make a pencil case out of fabric. 6 inches by 9 inches.
  • Share this page with your friends.
